Scientific Programme

The 14th International Congress on Mesomechanics will take place at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute (AEKI), Budapest, Hungary, Sept.25-28, 2012. It will be followed by the Meso Symposium in Vienna, Austria, Oct. 1-3, 2012. Abstracts for the Congress and Symposium are now being accepted until May 16, 2012 on topics related to Mesomechanics and Multiscaling. A half-day round table discussion about the Hungarian education system will take place on Sept. 28, 2012 followed by an organized visit to one of the gymnasiums that gave Nobel laureate scientists to global culture. Emphasized, in particular, are the cultural-scientific interactions, intertwining the segmentation of ideas and approaches that are not likely to be thought by a single culture. Even though the challenge of interfacing will be short of being perfect, a viable compromise should be attempted. The main objective of Meso 2012 is to provide a global forum for researchers to adopt a spirit of collaboration and establish order and consistency in the seemingly disintegrated field of physics and mechanics where physical laws for small and large bodies can vary, while different theories are needed for different spatial-temporal scale ranges, in addition to the effects of the changing environment. Historically, cultural diversities prevailed to encourage the development of different aspects of scientific methods that are chattered to the specific earthly habitat. What is beneficial for one locale may not be so for another, considering the overall survivability of the human race.
