Description
Mixtures can be regarded as media with at least two identifiable constituents. Structure of their models depends on the level of accuracy required in the problem at hand. It is the intention of the multi-temperature approach to gaseous mixtures to capture the non-equilibrium effects which go beyond the level of classical thermodynamics of irreversible processes (TIP) and place its description between macro and meso scale.
This lecture will give an overview of recent results of this endeavor obtained within the framework of rational extended thermodynamics (RET) and related approaches. It will cover the following issues: (a) modeling of multi-temperature mixtures of Euler fluids within RET; (b) basic structural properties of the model; (c) comparison with the kinetic theory approach; (d) analysis of the shock structure in a binary mixture of non-reacting gases; (e) analysis of the entropy growth and entropy production rate in the shock structure problem.
The results presented in this lecture are obtained in collaboration with prof. Tommaso Ruggeri (Bologna, Italy), dr Damir Madjarevic (Novi Sad, Serbia), dr Milana Pavic Colic (Novi Sad, Serbia).
