Description

The talk will focus on the ALICE measurements of semi-inclusive distributions of charged-particle jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) hadron trigger in Pb--Pb and  p--Pb collisions at the LHC energies. The coincidence observable that is measured is  calculable perturbatively in vacuum and provides a
new probe to measure quenching.  The semi-inclusive observable corresponds to the ratio of inclusive cross
sections, $d\sigma^\mathrm{h_{trig}+jet}/\sigma^\mathrm{h_{trig}}$. Therefore, comparison of the recoil jet yield collisions measured for different event activity does not require knowledge of nuclear thickness function, thereby avoiding the need for geometric modelling. This is useful in small systems where the relation of event activity and collision geometry is smeared by fluctuations. Jets are reconstructed from charged particle tracks using the anti-kT algorithm with low IR cutoff of jet constituents ($p_T^{track}>0.15$ GeV/c). The analysis applies a data-driven statistical approach to correct the complex uncorrelated jet background, including multi-partonic interactions.
